‘The story of an accordion linked to a young talent’- Gema Ponce, ‘El Mundo’ Newspaper

In 2020, Sofia was a first-prize winner at one of the most prestigious International Accordion Competitions “Trophee Mondiale de l’accordeon”. She has also been awarded in other well-known international competitions such as Klingenthal (Germany) and Castelfidardo (Italy).


As solo accordionist with orchestra she has performed Richard Galliano’s “Opale” Concerto (2018) and Astor Piazzolla’s Double Concerto (2019) as part of Edinburgh Competition Festival Concerto Class Final. 


Her repertoire ranges from original works for accordion (Kusyakov, Lorentzen, Londonov, Makkonen...), to transcriptions from Bach, Scarlatti, Schnittke and Albeniz.


Born in the Canary Islands (Spain) 2002, Sofia is currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with the Serbian accordionist Djordje Gajic. She started playing accordion at the age of 6, and gained a full scholarship to study at Scotland’s National Specialist Music School “St. Mary’s Music School” in Edinburgh at the age of 13 and graduated in 2020 winning their annual competition “Director’s Recital Prize” performing in St. Mary’s Cathedral.


1st prize awards in Spain include the Arrasate Accordion Competition 2012, 2018 and 2019 and in Scotland the “Allie Cullen” Memorial Prize as part of Glasgow Competition Festival 2019.
